Round #10 Report  - Daniel Nsibambi (Uganda)

Hi All,

Uganda  drew  2 - 2 with  Bahrain  last evening in another closely contested encounter that  Uganda could have won Tuesday evening.  Shadrack Kantinti and Steven Kawuma won their games to earn Uganda's two points. Isaac Munanira and Emmanuel Mwaka narrowly  lost their encounters.

Emmanuel Mwaka (unrated) on table 4 had Shaker al Afoo (2200) struggling all the way before making a judgement error in the end game that cost him an assured victory.

Shadrack Kantinti on table 1 playing black pieces was in control most of the time. He won a rook for a knight by discovered check against Ibrah Dafi Amanai (unrated) who conceded defeat soon thereafter.

Steven Kawuma (2053) is becoming a terror of sorts to his opponents  whom  he slowly  pushes into a corner before finally finishing them off in classic style. This is the same way he handled Gaffar Jamal Abdul (2120) on table 2  who resigned close to checkmate after losing a free rook and other valuable material in a series of consecutive checks.

Isaac Munanira (unrated)  tried his usual  style of throwing his opponents off-track but he left himself open for a queening pawn that made the difference and cost him the game. He narrowly lost to Maher Ayyad (unrated).

Uganda (115) now stands at 17 points and will play Malta seeded 106 with the same number of points . Uganda's team in round 11 tonight will be : Kantinti Shadrack; Kawuma Steven; Ignatius Wanderema and Isaac Munanira.
