Round #13 Report - Daniel Nsibambi (Uganda)
Hi All,
Ignatius Wanderema and Emmanuel Mwaka played the games of their life to salvage two crucial draws for Uganda against the deaf team of the International Committee of Silent Chess (ICSC). Grace Nsubuga and Shadrack Kantinti lost their games in this tough encounter which gave ICSC a 3 - 1 win yesterday.
Emmanuel Mwaka (unrated) struggling to earn his maiden point this Olympiad, was lined up against Cehic Goran (2157) . This higher rating did not deter Emmanuel from piling pressure on his man and almost registering a win. The two agreed to a draw though position-wise the game could have gone in favour of the Ugandan.
The same story was almost repeated by Ignatius Wanderema who was also looking to bettering his initial half point earned against Malta in round 11. He earned a well deserved draw against higher rated Bokros Istvan (2143).
Grace Nsubuga (2224) played white against International Master Georgiev Veselin (2310) who did not give Nsubuga any room for manouvre right from the word go. That is the way it went until Nsubuga conceded defeat in the end.
Shadrack Kantinti's (2200) fate against another International Master Salov Segei (2297) was no different. The IM took advantage of an ill-timed knight/bishop exchange to gain an initiative that Shadrack failed to contain.
Today is rest day and tomorrow at 10.00 am is the final round where Uganda is lined up against Ethiopia which has been turning out good results this Olympiad. At 23 points Uganda wishes to end this Olympiad in a better position than the 115 seed that they started out with. The final results will depend on how Uganda handles Ethipia in round 14.
The team will be: Shadrack Kantinti, Steven Kawuma, Isaac Munanira and Emmanuel Mwaka.
