Round #2 Report  - Daniel Nsibambi (Uganda)

Uganda has landed Tunisia, the second strongest chess team on the African continent  for this afternoon's game. Led by their 40-year old  Grandmaster  Slim Belkhodja (2497), Tunisia is ranked second to Egypt in chess strength in Africa. They  earned a  half point from their game yesterday against Slovenia 'A'.

The other players on their team are: International Master (IM) Medji Kaabi (2383);

52 year-old GM Slim Bouaziz (2354); FIDE Master (FM) Nabil Doghri (2325) and Walid Chikhaoui (unrated).

The Tunisians strength on paper has not dampened the morale in the Ugandan camp. The boys are just waiting for the appointed time to confront the North Africans. We are fielding the same team that nearly shocked the Canadians. Tell you all about it later this afternoon.

Other African teams had mixed results the first day, yesterday. The best perfoming one was Egypt who white washed Brunei 4-0. Zambia drew twice through Amon Simutowe and Chumfwa Stanley (2252) to snatch a valuable point from Bosnia & Herzegovina. Zimbabwe teenager Robert Gwaze also got a sole point for his countryafter winning against Finland.

South Africa, Kenya, Botswana, Namibia, Libya, Angola, Mauritius, Ethiopia and Somalia lost all their first round games 0 - 4.  A team is composed of four players and each player earns one point for  a win   while a draw gives him/her  half a point. A loss is of course zero.

Today, Egypt meet Greece, Zambia - Brazil, Zimbabwe - Faroe Islands, Algeria - Panama, Botswana - Venezuela, Ethiopia - Iraq, Namibia  - Uruguay, South Africa  - Libya, Kenya -  Wales, Angola - San Marino, Mauritius- Malta, and Somalia - Macao. Although Rwanda registered and is listed , they have not showed up yet here.

Best regards,

Daniel
