Big Chair CC celebrates 30 years
Recently The Big Chair Chess Club was featured in the Huffington Post after having made a voyage to the Cosmos Club in Washington, DC. The Cosmos Club is a vintage cultural center founded in 1874 by John Wesley Powell (1832-1902) together with prominent artists, writers and scientists.
The membership has included three U.S. presidents, two Vice Presidents, a dozen Supreme Court justices, 32 Nobel Prize winners, 56 Pulitzer Prize winners and 45 recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. GM Lubomir Kavalek helped to facilitate the visit which included a tour, a match and an simultaneous exhibition.
The BCCC has served the DC area for 30 years providing chess instruction to thousands of youth and adults. Eugene Brown has been the visionary for exposing more children to the benefits of chess through his various scholastic initiatives.
