NYC Blitz heats up NYC… Josh Colas wins!

2022 New York/Georgetown Blitz Invitational

2022 New York/Georgetown Blitz Invitational

New York City recently held a blitz championship culminating in a classic battle between Josh Colas and Nigeria’s Adegboyega Joel Adebayo. The New York/Georgetown Blitz Invitational tournament was the beginning of what is to come in 2023 according to Aggrey Duncan,

What we are trying to do here in New York, is to build talent without affecting ratings. We want our players to have more impact at National events. Hence our tournaments are unrated. We are aiming at growing confidence, tournament experience, our base of females and juniors. We are in the building process. As wind down the year 2022, we are now reflecting on what has been a very busy year after the scourage of COVID pushed chess activities online.

The event attracted 24 players from the surrounding areas with three eight-player groups. Eight players went on to a knockout system of the top eight players from the three groups.

Well organized tournament. Many thanks to the sponsors, organizer, and TDs… a well-deserved champion also. His last game was really instructive. Overall assessment: SUPERB !!!! … from top to bottom. Thx u Augrey & company ? I’m sure my nephew, Joshua, shares my sentiment. Adding my thanks and congrats to a well-organized and run tourney to the Duncan brothers, the TD, and scorer Gordon Broomes!! Let’s do this again soon
