Open

Iran was coming into the match undefeated and with high hopes against India. Playing without Alireza Firouzja who represents France, this Olympiad performance shows that Iran has a promising future. If in fact, Firouzja returns to Iran, they will vie for a gold medal. At this point India, is too strong and won convincingly 3.5-.5 over Iran. Arjun Erigaisi is now on 7.5/8 with a 3000+ TPR. D. Gukesh is now on 6.5/7 and now at 2784 live rating. Here he is at the moment of victory.

Uzbekistan, U.S., and China stayed in the hunt with 2.5-1.5 wins over Serbia, France and Romania, respectively. Host Hungary beat Armenia to join into the medal-contending pack. Levon Aronian has found his form after saving losing positions in the first two rounds against weaker opposition.

Women

Shocking news as India suffered their first loss of the competition, falling to Poland. However, India holds onto a slim lead after nine rounds. Vantika Agrawal tried in vain to equalize the match, but had to concede the draw.

Kazakhstan beat France, and the U.S. continues its medal hunt by crushing Uzbekistan 3.5-.5. Both Carissa Yip (8/9) and Alice Lee (7/8) are on track for board medals. They will have a big test against India. Kazakhstan will meet Poland.
