University of Texas - Dallas (UTD) has built a progressive chess program over the past several years and has attracted diverse talent from around the world. One of the players they have attracted is Amon Simutowe of Zambia, a 2nd year student in economics and finance.

In the past two years, Simutowe has helped UTD win two collegiate championships, the last only a week ago at the 2004 Pan-Am Intercollegiate tournament. In this key game, Simutowe faced Polish Grandmaster
Pavel Blehm from arch rival, University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC).

UTD would win the title on the strength of a 3-1 win over UMBC which included the following game… a flogging of Blehm at the hands of Simutowe.
