This issue's "Fire on Board" features the game that caused a tremendous buzz at the 2001 World Open. FM Emory Tate is a fearsome player and a tactician par excellence. This game was played in the crucial 8th round which made it more significant. Tate uncorked a direct assault on Kudrin's king after it was caught enjoying the breeze in the center of the board. What was to come was a slashing 24-move victory as FM Tate launched tactical cannons and scored a devastating victory. The final position is convincing.
