One pivotal round was in round five against IM Benjamin Finegold. At a crucial point in the game, he had two options leading to the win of a rook. FM Muhammad did proceed to win a rook, but in doing so, he allowed a perpetual check. The other option was merely a different move order but would've netted the rook and the full point.
Nevertheless, FM Muhammad will join GM Maurice Ashley at the 2003 U.S. championships in Seattle. He will also compete in this year's World Open. Muhammad continues to shine!
