STEPHEN Kawuma again proved to be master of the short games by winning his second Rapid Chess Open this season. The former junior champion outwitted Steven Kisuze 1-0 in a blitz game decider after the first game ended 1-1 at Kyambogo. The finalists were in good from before Kawuma's tactics prevailed.
Kawuma, 22, one the the rising stars of Ugandan chess, went a step better having won the New Year Rapid Open in January. The Makerere University civil engineering student, earned sh50,000 for his win while Kisuze got sh30,000.
Kawuma beat veteran Joachim Okoth while Kisuze defeated Grace Nsubuga in the semi finals. National coach Neils Lauritsen from Denmark sponsored the competition that attracted local chess' top 24 players.
