"COJA Test Runs with Chess," This Day, 18 August 2003 (Lagos, Nigeria).
The organising committee of the 8th All Africa Games (COJA) is planning host to top world class chess players for the next one week as a test run for the chess event of the Games. The test run tagged "Nigeria vs. the rest of the world" is a 24-man competition pitching 12 Nigerian players against 12 other players from across the globe.
Project Manager Elias Gora, said at the weekend that the event will coincide with the hosting of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) Presidential Executive Board meeting which began Saturday at the NICON Hilton Hotel, venue for the competition.
The meeting will also enable successful Arbiters at the recently concluded COJA sponsored FIDE Arbiters seminar to receive their International Arbiters and FIDE Arbiters badges and certificates from FIDE president, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
Both the meeting and the award ceremonies will precede the competition in which competitors are expected from Russia, Libya, Greece, South Africa, Ghana and Cot d'Ivoire with the Women World Chess Champion, Grandmaster Zhu Chen leading the high profile group.
