Fresh from receiving Negash Bezaleel as a guest during the National Championship, Jamaica got another visitor. IM Martin Neubauer traveled to Jamaica and decided to test the players locally. He took part in a Wednesday night blitz tournament at the Kaspablanca Chess Club. Club President Markland Douglas, who directed Nationals, also directed this event.
Local player Jomo Pitterson and National Champion FM Warren Elliott played in a few skittles games before the event. The IM (who trains with Trinidad and Tobago) won all of his games in a double round-robin format which included Shane Matthews, Daren Wisdom and Adrian Palmer. Matthews finished second overall and Wisdom blanked Palmer 2-0 to claim third.
Mark Bowen was on hand to take a few pictures and joked, "Palmer could have had a perfect score (zero in all his games) but spoiled it with a single win over Matthews' Dragon."
