On June 2nd, the FIDE General Assembly will elect a President for a five-year term. In what will prove to be a hotly-contested contest Kirsan Ilyumzhinov's "Chess Fidelity" ticket will face Bessel Kok's "The Right Move." Both parties have hosted informative websites in hopes to articulate their respective platforms. There has been a copious amount of material produced about the campaign and some of it has been contentious.
The Chess Drum has compiled a list of links pertaining to the campaign and in addition, was able to conduct interviews with both candidates. In the following interviews similar questions were raised concerning their visions for chess. The Kok campaign has been producing "Position Papers" which have further outlined specific issues for chess development.
There have been many interviews and during the 2006 Olympiad, each ticket will be jockeying for position to win the hearts of federation who have yet announced their support. Africa has particularly been a battleground for votes as the continent is perhaps the most needy in terms of chess reforms.
