Nigeria is one of the most promising federations on the continent of Africa. With a number of enthusiastic players, the federation has done well in international competition and has produced five International Masters to date. The federation is in the midst of reorganization and has already made some ambitious steps such as holding the very successful Vmobile Chess Challenge.

Nigerian chessplayers have created a very interesting forum and it includes must-see vintage photos from past tournaments including several Olympiads. There are also several essays on Nigeria's chess history… one which includes a profile of
Emmanuel Omuku, former Executive Director of FIDE. The website/blog also covers news of the Nigerian Diapora spread throught the world.

Sani Mohammed holds the reigns for the Nigerian Chess Federation and will lead the charge for what can be the beginning of a new chess dynasty. With 135 million inhabitants, Nigeria has also been a nation with a large pool of talent and intellect. The current issue is how to best develop and harness the talent to produce caliber players. Discussions are underway to create an NCF website, but the Nigerian Chess Players Forum is perhaps the best vehicle to bring forth the national debate on chess.
