Glenmuir High School student Onaje Lamont has emerged victorious in the 2007 Jamaica Junior Chess Championships with a sizzling score of 5½/6. According to a JACA news report, Lamont clinched the title by toppling the defending champion, Brandon Wilson in the 5th round. Wilson finished 2nd with on 5/6 while Phillip Pryce and Damion Davy placed joint 3rd on 4½/6.

Lamont's victory makes him eligible to represent Jamaica at junior events until 2008. This includes the
World Junior Championships and the Sagicor Open Junior Chess Tournament to be held in Barbados. Lamont has been a promising junior in recent years and recently helped Glenmuir High win the RBTT Schools Chess Championships.
