LASCO Jamaican Chess
League - Round #5
(Report by Peter
Myers)
Peter Myers, “Blitzkrieg,
Knightmares anticlimax Gladiators close in on Leaders,” Jamaican Chess
Federation, 15 April 2006 (Clarendon,
Jamaica).
The
much-anticipated clash between the top two seeds in the LASCO Chess League, the
Blitzkrieg Boys and the Knightmares, quickly fizzled to a tame 2-2 stalemate on
Saturday, as both teams, not wanting to risk their current position atop the
standings, agreed to early draws on all four boards. Playing for the Blitzkrieg
Boys were Malaku Lorne, Brandon Wilson,
Alain Morais and Ramon Jackson, while
representing the Knightmares were Warren Elliott, Jomo
Pitterson, Equitable Brown and Dain
Dixon.
Gladiators shot to third in the standings after pounding
the Little Giants 4-0, while King Rippers registered an unconvincing 2.5-1.5
victory over the Reggae Knights, to claim their first match win in four
starts.
Knightmares continue to lead League on 13.5 points, followed by
the Blitzkrieg Boys on 11 points. In third place is Gladiators on 10.5 followed
by Varcon CC in fourth on 9 points, Reggae Knights in fifth on 7, King Rippers
in sixth on 5 and Little Giants in last place on 4.
The League continues
this Saturday and Sunday at the Holy Childhood Library, with the playing of
rounds 6 and 7. Round 6 encounters include the Rippers vs Varcon, Knightmares vs
Reggae Knights and the feature match Blitzkrieg vs Gladiators.
In round 7
on Sunday, the Reggae Knights will face Blitzkrieg, Gladiators will challenge
the Rippers and Varcon will be up against the Little Giants.
