Team Profile

Over the years, Angola has been one of the strongest chess-playing nations in sub-Saharan Africa. The resource-rich country has produced a number of strong players including five International Masters and two former Pedro Adérito (1993), and Eugénio Campos (1994).

This year, they will be lead by the energetic Aderito who seems to score well in Olympiad tournaments and lead the team with an impressive 8-3 score in Bled. Apparently, Angola is ranking the board order by the scores of the Bled Olympiad. Campos returns after missing the Bled Olympiad which should strengthen the lineup considerably.
