A lot has happened since the last Olympiad in 2006. The chess world crown has unified, a new World Champion has been crowned, the balance of power has shifted slightly and a new crop of young stars have emerged. All of these elements will be showcased at the 2008 Chess Olympiad in Dresden, Germany. While Viswanathan Anand will not be playing for the Indian side, all the top brass will headline a record of 154 nations and 1345 players competing in two divisions in the world's premier team tournament.
Dresden hopes to provide a comfortable playing venue and will be expanding coverage to include live online coverage called "Chess Olympiad TV." This new featured will offer 24-hour coverage of the events including highlights, interviews and game commentary. Media coverage is turning the corner as seen by the Foidos platform during the World Championship and the proliferation of blogs and multimedia content. The Chess Drum will be covering the action!
